Architectural Collaboration Project at Seattle VR Hackathon
I participated in the Fall 2016 Seattle VR Hackathon. I found a group of 6 other people who were interested in building an architectural collaboration tool for use while in virtual reality. This is a video about the project. Our project was built using Unity for the HTC Vive, the interface was controlled using the Vive controllers as well as using Alexa Skills that we created to enable a voice interface.
We were aiming for VR and AR interaction on the same project, which was part of why we were working on the voice interface. When using a Microsoft Hololens, since there aren’t yet any controllers besides point and pinch gestures, it was extremely helpful to be able to tell the project to, for example, turn off the architecture layer so that you could see the underlying technical and structural elements of the buildings.
We showed our project at a Seattle VR Meetup the week after. One of the most amazing parts of of the project is getting to see people realizing that virtual reality as a media is not just for gaming. I have so many thoughts on possible uses for VR.
