Carl Craig – D25 Showcase at Decibel Festival 2010

Interpreting music through video.
I create and perform visuals for shows. I use a combination of the programs Isadora from Troikatronix as well as Max (Max/MSP/Jitter) for the live shows, as well as Apple’s Quartz Composer for some of the live feeds. I often use just one laptop since they are getting to be capable of so much variety in such an easy to carry package. For some shows, I use two laptops, a video mixer, and maybe some electronic toys. I almost always carry a midi dial controller with me. This is how I accomplish much of the feel of my graphics. For composing clips to use in the shows I use any program that can import or export video or image data. This has included Final Cut Pro, Blender, Flash, Quartz Composer, broken analog video devices . . .
When I get really into the music, I am completely unaware of anything but the music and group performing. Every once in a while, I’ll come out of the haze of music for a bit and look around. If I see zoned out people staring at the screen, or, my favorite, the musicians looking back at the screen, then I’m doing my job.
