Holga Lens
Tuesday, December 20th, 2011I got a cheap toy lens for my nice Canon DSLR. It might be useful, but I was mostly disappointed in the shots that it takes. I think that’s mostly because I try to set up my shots and look at all the details closely. I’m thinking I might try setting the display to not show and take my photos a lot faster with the lens. That might fit the picture quality a bit better.
That said, these are a few that I liked.

Monday, December 19th, 2011Below is a track I created using just the iPhone Filtatron app. I started off just playing around with using the app as a delay with my guitar, and then it gradually got into feedback and self oscillation. At some point I hit record, and at another I hit stop. This track is around 12 minutes and it’s fairly modular-sounding and satisfying.
Watch your audio levels. Most sounds come in fairly gradually, but if you jump around, turn the volume down first. Some parts are quite a bit louder than others.
Let me know if you take a listen.

Electrocomp EML Modular Synthesizer (Huge!)
EML Manual Voltage Generator
This is one of the most interesting synthesizer controllers I’ve seen in a while. It’s pretty much a user definable keyboard. Sequencers often have knobs you turn to select which pitch is played when that step in the sequence is triggered. This is the same thing, but instead of steps, it’s 16 buttons that can be tuned with 16 knobs. It would probably be simple and somewhat cheap to make something like this, and it would give some great playability. I could see having multiple sections to a song, and setting a row of these buttons up to play the melody.
Syntar Solo!
Just wanted to share a few photos from the PNW Synthfest that happened a while back. Honestly, I would have taken more photos, but there were so many modulars, and so many people in the space that it was a bit overwhelming. Don’t think I’ll go to any of the huge music gear shows.
